9 things I wish were still around

9 things I wish were still around

I recently saw an advertisement for Jiffy Pop popcorn, and I thought to myself, THAT is something I need to pack in my grandma bag to share with my grandsons next time.

Considering their delight in watching air-popped popcorn pop — and attempting to sing the Too Pooped to Pop song while we watch — I imagine Bubby and Mac would get quite a thrill out of watching the Jiffy Pop foil top grow as kernels pop and puff up inside.

3 things I learned this week: The good, the not-so-good and the 'Breaking Bad'

Good Thing No. 1:

It was announced this week that Allegiant is once again offering flights from my place to (near) my grandsons' place. Twice a week. For pretty darn cheap prices, even figuring in the cost of paying to lug my Grandma Bag with me when I visit.

grandma and grandsonsThat's great news considering my third grandson will be born in June and I'll be visiting soon after his birth. Also great news because that...

My husband's mistress, then and now

When my husband and I first started dating, he had a mistress. Their relationship continued even once Jim and I were married. He simply could not give her up, and he definitely could not keep his hands off her.

Goodbye, grocery store visits

I don't dust my house as often as I should. I did dust this past weekend, though, and throughout the chore — three floors of thirty-plus years worth of accumulated stuff that needs dusting — I continually thought to myself, "Now this is one of those things I'd happily pay others to do... if only I had the money."

Here are 10 more things I'd happily to pay others to do... if only I had the money:

Eating frogs and other edification

What I learned this week:

tree frog

A frog a day keeps procrastination away. Or something like that. I recently enjoyed lunch with a friend, and she shared with me a book that has helped her, a blogger and writer, accomplish more and procrastinate less. The book is Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy. The frog eating relates to Mark Twain's wisdom noting that if the first thing you do each day is eat a live frog, it's likely the worst thing that will happen all day. The author uses "eat that frog" as a...

9 temptations this grandma can't resist

As my oldest daughter and I embark on another round of supporting one another in efforts to get into shape, the idea of irresistible temptations have been on my mind.

Thankfully I don't lose my willpower when it comes to chocolate. No, it's carbs that do me in. Love me some pasta... and potatoes. I'm working hard to resist them now.

I've lately considered other temptations that get the best of me. Here are nine — with the top...
