How grandparents can help grandkids build social skills

How grandparents can help grandkids build social skills

While adults may joke about needing to relearn how to be around others in a post-pandemic world, children can also benefit from a refresh of certain soft skills — especially young children who may not remember pre-pandemic life.

Building on these skills can also help children prepare for a successful return to school.

Ideal backdrop

Last week I shared with you some of the reasons I love the look of fall right outside my back door.

Over the weekend, I discovered another reason: It’s the ideal autumn backdrop for my goofy daughter Andrea and her equally goofy hubby, Allen, to pose for silly shots during a special birthday celebration (more on that to come).

Their attitude inspires me to approach the new week in a similarly carefree way. I hope sharing the shots does the same for you.

Keep pushing on

Well, I’m about done with this whole virus thing. The social distancing, the masks, the not seeing my loved ones in person, the sheer sadness of the lives lost and overburdened healthcare workers trying to limit the loss.

Yep, I’m done.

Unfortunately there’s not a darn thing we can do about it … except plod onward. Things will get better. We just gotta keep pushin’ on.…

Alas, as I’m in no position to press pause on the growing boy’s progress, I merrily go along with his maturing. And take photos, of course. Lots of photos.

A grand goose egg

Bumps, bangs, and boo-boos are part and parcel of the toddler stage as newbie walkers get their land legs. I get that.

Goose eggs are entirely different story as far as I’m concerned, though. Yet every. single. one of my grandsons got big ones at one point or another. Benjamin’s point came Saturday when he bonked his noggin …

IMPORTANT NOTE: InLinkz, the app I use for link parties, has changed their format, unbeknownst to me until I created this post/party. It seems folks who add links now must sign up with InLinkz when adding links to a link party (simple enough using your email address or your Facebook profile—and InLinkz cannot post on your Facebook page). If you have trouble linking to the GRAND Social, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help you out.
