1: any of the small brownish spots in the skin due to augmented melanin production that increase in number and intensity on exposure to sunlight

Megan texted me this photo a week or so ago showing nine-year-old Brayden (who turns 10 in June) pleased as can be at the loss of his ninth tooth!

Hooray for the tooth, but all this grandma can focus on is that kid's adorable freckles!

We are a relatively freckle-free family, so when did freckles scatter so sweetly across my first — and faraway — grandson's precious face?

Oh, the things long-distance grandmas don't see in action.

Though, to be honest, would Brayden's freckles seem so precious if I had witnessed their one-by-one appearance? Maybe not. Maybe.
