Saturday movie briefs: What I watched on my summer vacation

Netflix original series

Time's up!

Seems only last week that I started my summer break from movie reviews and movie briefs, but by golly, it's already after Labor Day. Time to get back in the movie groove.

I didn't go to the theater one single time this summer. I did, though, watch a few films on the big screen in my family room. A few fabulous series, too.

Here's the skinny on what I watched on my summer vacation:

MOVIES ON DVD (from Netflix)

The good:

THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE

RACE

THE LOST CITY OF Z

ELVIS & NIXON — You may not have heard of this but Jim and I found it such fun I'm compelled to share the trailer:

The bad:

Despite trailers that made them look good or at least intriguing, these were surprisingly stinky stinkers. Stay away!

WILSON

THE DINNER

NORMAN: THE MODERATE RISE AND TRAGIC FALL OF A NEW YORK FIXER

SERIES ON NETFLIX STREAMING

In light of the dearth of recent decent movies in theaters and on DVD, most of my summer viewing was dedicated to binging Netflix Original Series.

Jim and I were captivated by all three of these — hence my sharing of trailers for each. Search for them on Netflix Streaming. You won't be disappointed.

OZARK (Debut season; season 2 greenlighted)

ATYPICAL (Debut season; still awaiting word on season 2)

LONGMIRE (Binged first five seasons! Season 1-3 originally aired on A&E then Netflix picked it up; season 6, the final season in the series, arrives on Netflix before 2017's end, per Netflix).

We became LONGMIRE fans late in the game but are so glad we found it... and are so sad it ends soon. This is the trailer for the most recent season. Don't worry about spoilers if you've not started the series yet as you'll forget all this once you start season 1.

Today's question:

What did you watch during your summer vacation?
