A humming snow bird

One of the nature centers in my city hosts an annual hummingbird festival the first weekend or two of May, the time when hummingbirds begin arriving to the area. The 21st Hummingbird Festival was held Saturday, and though I was in Boston until Saturday night, I understand the weather was fabulous for the festival and hummingbirds were appropriately honored.

Sunday morning it quickly became obvious the hummingbirds had indeed arrived not only to the area but to my back deck — despite the departure of the fabulous weather. With snow coming down hard in Colorado for most of the day, this little guy showed up again and again, determined to nab all he could from our feeders before his fellow flyers got word of his find. Or before the feeders froze up, whichever came first I can only assume.

I'm delighted the hummingbirds have arrived.

Now if only the fabulous weather would return.
