Silly sisters, plus GRAND Social No. 57

Welcome back! I hope your weekend warmed your heart.

I wanted to share with you a heartwarming moment from my weekend. The funeral for my cousin on Friday was a difficult affair filled with many tears. Fortunately, the gathering of friends and family afterward included hugs, smiles and unexpected moments to help the healing begin.

I enjoyed one special moment of levity with two of my four sisters — the two who bookend me in birth order, by three years on each side — as Brianna attempted to get a nice photo of the three of us together for the first time in far too long:

adult sisters

Sometimes you just gotta smile through the tears. It felt especially good to do exactly that with these two; it would have been even better if our other two sisters had been able to join us. Someday, I hope.

Also today is GRAND Social No. 57. Thank you for joining me. I'm trying out a new link party program, so please let me know if you have any problems with it. Link up, read up, enjoy!

link party

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, just be a grandparent who blogs.
  • To link up a post, copy the direct URL to the specific post — new or old — that you want to share, not the link to your blog's home page. Then click the blue button marked with "Add your link" below and follow the directions.
  • You can add up to three posts, but no duplicates, contests, giveaways, or Etsy sites, please.
  • Adding a mention such as This post linked to the GRAND Social to your linked posts is appreciated. Or, you can post the GRAND Social button anywhere on your page using the following code:

Grandma’sBriefs.com

<a href="/" target="_blank"><img src="http://grandmasbriefs.squarespace.com/storage/GRANDsocialbutton.jpg " alt="Grandma’sBriefs.com" width="125" height="125" /></a>

  • The GRAND Social linky is open for new posts through Wednesday evening, so please come back to see those added after your first visit.
  • If you're not a blogger, you have the pleasure of being a reader. Bloggers who link up would be honored to have one and all — other bloggers as well as readers — visit, read and, if so moved, comment, even if just a "Hey, stopping by from the GRAND Social."

Goats and the GRAND Social

Okay, this is silly. I won't try to pretend it's not. Yet I simply cannot stop chuckling each and every time I watch the following video, and I wanted to share it with you here. I hope it starts off your day — your week — with a chuckle. Or at least a smile.

I hereby present to you ... Goats Yelling Like Humans:

See? Silly. But so amusing, for some crazy reason. (Please tell me it's not just me.)

Not quite as silly or amusing but still a great time is the GRAND Social link party for grandparents. Thank you for joining me this week!

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, but you must be a grandparent who blogs.
  • Posts shared can be an old one or a recent one, your choice.
  • To link up, copy the direct link to the specific post you want to share, not the link to your blog's home page. Then click the blue "Click here to enter" text below and follow the directions to add your post to the list.
  • You can add up to three posts, but no duplicates, please, and none you have promoted on a previous GRAND Social linky.
  • No contests, giveaways, or Etsy sites, please.
  • Adding a mention at the bottom of your linked posts, such as This post has been linked to the GRAND Social linky, is appreciated. Or, you can post the GRAND Social button using the following code:

Grandma’sBriefs.com

<a href="/" target="_blank"><img src="http://grandmasbriefs.squarespace.com/storage/GRANDsocialbutton.jpg " alt="Grandma’sBriefs.com" width="125" height="125" /></a>

  • The GRAND Social linky is open for new posts through Wednesday evening, so please come back to see those added after your first visit.
  • If you're not a blogger, you have the pleasure of being a reader. All bloggers who link up would be honored to have you—bloggers and readers—click, visit, read and comment.

READERS and PARTICIPATING BLOGGERS: Please visit the posts others have linked to by clicking on the thumbnail photos. Comments are always appreciated by the bloggers whose links you visit, even if it's simply "Hey, stopping by from GRAND Social."

Thank you for participating in the GRAND Social!

Black Thursday and the GRAND Social

I enjoy a good deal as much as the next grandma, but I strongly disagree with this:

Why do I think it's wrong? For starters, it further diminishes Thanksgiving in the mad dash from Halloween to Christmas. Plus, it means retail workers must be on the job instead of at home with their families on the holiday. And it places consumerism and the almighty dollar above tradition and family and things that should matter most.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only grandma who feels that way, but I'll climb on down from my mini soapbox now. Thank you for listening.

And thank you for sticking around and participating in this week's GRAND Social.

Here we go...

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, but you must be a grandparent who blogs.
  • Posts shared can be an old one or a recent one, your choice. I like to link up to older posts that current readers likely haven't seen.

Collaboration is key plus the GRAND Social grandparent linky — October 29

The GRAND Social has always been a collaboration of sorts. People add links and people read links to create an enjoyable experience for all. Without those posting, there'd be no GRAND Social. Without those reading, there'd be no GRAND Social, at least not as it's meant to be—a collaboration.

Here is another sort of collaboration, one in which commuters in the United Kingdom add notes here and there to create something beautiful, something worth sharing. A collaboration.

Thank you for collaborating with me today on the GRAND Social. I appreciate those who link, as well as those who read. Together we, too, are creating something beautiful, something worth sharing.

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, but you must be a grandparent who blogs.
  • Posts shared can be an old one or a recent one, your choice. I like to link up to older posts that current readers likely haven't seen.

Happy Monday! Thank you for visiting on this fine fall day.

GRAND Social — Grandparent linky — October 1

As I scurry about this week, meeting deadlines and preparing for Friday's trip to the desert to see my grandsons, I'm determined to keep one thing in mind—a lesson I learned Saturday. From a squirrel. Yes, a squirrel. A lesson that looked like this:

That sprawled-out squirrel I photographed Saturday taking a break and enjoying the fall weather reminds me that no matter how busy one may be, we all should take a moment to relax and enjoy our surroundings. I will incorporate moments of sprawling between my moments of scurrying this week. I hope you'll do the same.

Thank you for taking a moment of your time to visit and participate in this, the first GRAND Social of October. Enjoy!

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, but you must be a grandparent who blogs.

GRAND Social — Grandparent linky — September 24

I'm not sure if I learned it in kindergarten—that fabled place where all we really need to know was supposedly ingrained—but I am sure that I did learn how to share somewhere along the line. Yet it's come to my attention that I've been remiss in regularly sharing what's in the far reaches of the Grandma's Briefs website. Namely, Grandma's Back Room.

If you're a fan of Grandma's Briefs on Facebook, you've been directed to the Back Room, but I need to get better about pointing out what's featured there right here, on my home page. So before I kick off this week's GRAND Social, I want to direct those who've never been or those who have but may have forgotten all about it to click on over to Grandma's Back Room. It's where you'll find my reviews, my giveaways, my sponsored posts.

Of course, the giveaways are a top reason to visit the Back Room, and this week there will be plenty. For starters, there's a current giveaway for a VeggieTales DVD, but that's just the beginning. This week I'll also feature in the Back Room another DVD giveaway as well as one you surely won't want to miss as it's for the coolest of cool indoor bouncy houses. Plus, I have a few other goodies I hope to get posted there this week.

I urge you to visit the Back Room, take a look around, and enter the current giveaway, even if just as practice for what's to come. Entering a Rafflecopter giveaway, the widget I use for giveaways, can be a tad intimidating the first time or two. I'd like you to practice up, for I have great giveaways in store, not only this week but through the end of the year (think week of giveaways when my Holiday Guide kicks off), and I'd really hate for you to miss out on them.

Then do come back here. After all, today I share here the main feature of the day—another GRAND Social.

See? I do know how to share! Now it's your turn, via the GRAND Social.

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, but you must be a grandparent who blogs.
  • Posts shared can be an old one or a recent one, your choice. I like to link up to older posts that current readers likely haven't seen.

GRAND Social — Grandparent linky — September 10

It's a new week and a whole new world. At least in terms of weather. One week ago, I was moaning and groaning about the seemingly neverending heat of summer, even as summer was winding down.

As I look ahead to this week, though, I'm smiling. Especially because last night when I checked the weather forecast for the next few days, this is what I saw:

Does that look like heaven or what? If not heaven, then at the very least it's a super sign that autumn—my very favorite season—is on its way. And that makes me smile.

Another thing that makes me smile? The GRAND Social. Between the prospect of awesome posts and the potential for pleasant weather, I'd say the new week's off to a pretty darn good start. Enjoy!

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog specifically about grandparenting, but you must be a grandparent who blogs.

GRAND Social — Grandparent linky — August 27

I've been rather unavailable and unresponsive online the last few days—here, on Facebook, on Twitter, and through email. You're welcome to blame it on these guys, my hosts and activity directors for the weekend:
