IMPORTANT NOTE: InLinkz, the app I use for link parties, has changed their format, unbeknownst to me until I created this post/party. It seems folks who add links now must sign up with InLinkz when adding links to a link party (simple enough using your email address or your Facebook profile—and InLinkz cannot post on your Facebook page). If you have trouble linking to the GRAND Social, please let me know and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Caption this!

My three long-distance grandsons and their parents visited last month for Benjamin’s baptism. While they were here, we spent an afternoon at a local indoor trampoline park.

The big boys loved the hours of jumping about, but Benjamin is obviously too young for such rowdy, rambunctious play with his brother, James, and his cousins, Brayden, Declan, and Camden. Benjamin spent most of the outing being held by Mom, me, or—when she wasn’t bouncing about with the the big boys—Aunt Megan

Love and lore

It’s impossible to escape the fact—touted by retailers since before Christmas decor was fully clearanced off their shelves—that this Thursday is Valentine’s Day.

But… do you know the facts about that day o’ love most folks have strong love-it-or-hate-it feelings about?

I have a feeling maybe not. I certainly didn’t (til searching for something to start of this week’s link party).

So in the interest general edification…

Friday Flashback: 30 grandchild firsts only grandparents celebrate

Friday Flashback: 30 grandchild firsts only grandparents celebrate

Dear readers: This flashback feature originally appeared on Grandma's Briefs April 8, 2014. Thank you for reading my rerun.

There are numerous firsts in a child's life worth celebrating. The milestones Mom and Dad celebrate, though, may be a wee bit different than those Grandma and Grandpa celebrate.

Here are 30 firsts in the life of a grandchild that warm a grandparent's heart and warrant a happy dance:

Remember Sniglets?

I watched a comedy show the other night and found myself more annoyed than amused. I'm bone-weary—and bored—by what seems to pass as humor anymore, that being primarily political skits, potty jokes, and TMI on anything and everything.

That may sound crotchety, but gee whiz, I sure could go for some of the wit and wisecrackery (yeah, my word) that made me chuckle—and sometimes snort—back in the day.

Yesterday I sought out some of the silliness that used to make me smile and stumbled upon several videos of one of my all-time favorite snicker-eliciting…

Global Hug Your (grand)Kids Day! Plus, GRAND Social No. 311 link party for grandparents

Global Hug Your (grand)Kids Day!

Today is the third Monday of July which means, of course, that it's Global Hug Your Kids Day

Global Hug Your Kids Day was created by Michelle Nicholes in honor of her son Mark, who died in 1998 from brain cancer at 8 1/2 years old. As there's nothing in the official certification of said day that requires hugs be given solely to one's immediate kids, I propose handing out some big ol' bear hugs to your grandkids today, too!

Why hug any kids today, grand or otherwise? Because…

Flashback: 9 things I've kept 'for the grandkids'

Dear readers: This Flashback feature originally appeared on Grandma's Briefs July 22, 2010. Thank you for reading this updated rerun!

My daughters have been grown and gone for quite some time now, but there are a few useful and/or enjoyable things from their childhood that I just can't throw away..

I'm pretty sure—or at least I'm bound and determined—that these items will one day come in handy, that they'll one day provide fun and frivolity for my grandkids.

9 THINGS I'VE KEPT 'FOR THE GRANDKIDS'

1. VHS tapes of children's movies and shows. Space Jam, Fluke, Casper and more. I can't see throwing away tapes I know kids love, but I sure don't plan on replacing them with DVDs or Blu-Ray discs (except for the…
