No GRAND Social link party

Due to my mom’s passing—and my flight-finding scramble to return early from my visit in the desert with my grandsons before she was gone... and my heartbreaking failure to do so in time; the phone call she had died came as my daughter drove me to the airport—there is no GRAND Social link party this week.

I’m posting this from my phone during a layover in my race to get home, so please excuse funky formatting, if there is any.

I appreciate your understanding. The GRAND Social shall return next week.

Grand spinners from Krokotak!

I'm always on the lookout for cool and creative crafts for kids. My grandkids in particular. Because the majority of my grandkiddos live more than 800 miles away, I rarely execute said crafts with my grandsons, but I do love to collect ideas for "one day." (Much like I collect cookbooks and recipes... yet make the same standards again and again.)

Anyway, if you like Grandma's Briefs on Facebook, you may already know one of my favorite sources for clever activities for kids is Krokotak. I'm not sure what the name means or who's behind the magic, but I…

July 4 food & fun faves!

Based on some flack I recently received on social media for sharing Fourth of July activities for kiddos, it seems some folks believe the current state of our nation renders us lacking reason to celebrate the good ol' USA.

I beg to differ. I say celebrate what is good and grand about it we must. Especially for the kids' sake. Our country does have honor, does have heart, and we definitely have much to appreciate and uphold and respect. Even if it sometimes requires digging deep to see it.

This holiday week I propose we do dig deep and put patriotism above partisanship! With that in mind, I once again share my…

Encourage compassion!

The egregious lack of compassion on the parts of many—and on so many levels—in our society anymore has become an overriding dark cloud of concern to me. Maybe for you, too. It's so darn heartbreaking and mind boggling for those of us who know we, collectively, are better than the recent devastating actions and events that, fairly or not, have come to define us as a nation.

I want better for my grandchildren, for all grandchildren. You probably do, too. Yet it's hard to know…

When you really love ice cream!

At the start of last week's GRAND Social post, I shared with you my oh-so sad grandson Declan who oh-so-badly wanted to go to Disneyland.

Now, that video may misrepresent that particular grandkiddo a smidgen, as sad is oh-so far from Declan's typical disposition.

So today, at the start of this week's GRAND Social, I share with you a shot—four, actually—that better show the more common, more comedic side of my wacky youngest grandson.

Superhero Cam... again!

One evening earlier this month, during that atrocious period of sub-freezing temperatures, Jim texted Megan to ask how she and the family were doing with the chilly weather that had assaulted even their location in the desert.

Her response was a photo of Brayden, Declan, and Preston warding off the cold in the backyard hot tub.

"I'm sitting in front of the fireplace," she added. (Yes, they do have fireplaces in the desert... fireplaces that apparently do get used!)

"Where's Cam?" Jim asked.

Heating up the grill! Plus, GRAND Social No. 285 link party for grandparents

The holidays have passed and we're already nearly a quarter of the way through the first month of the new year. Which means it's time to get back to the business of GRAND Social socializing.

First, though, another bit of business: that of grilling! Grandma grilling.

Heating up the grill!

For far too many months to count now, I've been lax — okay, downright negligent — about publishing new Grilled Grandma features. Which isn't okay with me, as celebrating fellow grandmothers is one of my favorite things to do here on Grandma's Briefs.

So today I resolve to feature (meaning, grill) far more grandmothers in the months to come.

But... that means I need you!

No GRAND Social link party this week? Long story made short

Astute readers of Grandma's Briefs and regular participants in the weekly GRAND Social link party for grandparents may have noticed something amiss this week. That being that there was no GRAND Social link party published on Monday, yesterday, as it has been for a couple years now.

I sincerely apologize for that. It's a long story why the GRAND Social is MIA. But as it's late Monday night and I just returned from the hospital as I write this, I'll make the long story short by simply sharing what I just posted a bit ago on my personal Facebook page. (Plot point: Yesterday was my birthday.)

My long story made short, copied from Facebook:

Final Countdown

With mere hours remaining in my desert visit, I'm soaking up as much fun in the sun with my grandkiddos as I can.

Shooting as many photos as I can, too. Here are a few I especially love:
