Inspiration for 2019! Plus, GRAND Social No. 333 link party for grandparents

Inspiration for 2019!

Each time the new year rolls around, I feel compelled to create a list of resolutions for the upcoming year. Or to choose a word by which my motivations for the next twelve months will be guided. I admire folks who manage to settle on such things, yet regardless of how deeply I feel I should do one or the other, I do neither.

I prefer instead to simply find inspiration which supports my own personal mission that has guided me for most of my adult life. A statement I settled on many years ago when I was writing an article on mission statements. The article focused on family mission statements but it led me to believe I needed a personal mission statement of sorts.

After some soul searching and such, I settled on this one, which I know by heart and daily (try to) take to heart:

“I am a well-paid writer who makes a positive difference in the lives of others through my words and actions.”

The “well-paid” part was more an attempt at self-fulfilling prophecy… which hasn’t come to full fruition—yet. The second half, though, I do consciously self-check regularly. Many times I succeed on follow-through; just as many times I fail miserably.

So come New Year’s time, it’s not resolutions or words I seek, but inspiration in line with my overall goal. The following three perfectly relevant graphics popped up on social media in the past few weeks, and I feel like they hit on the head exactly what I need to focus on in the year ahead in order to maintain my mission. (If you follow Grandma’s Briefs on Facebook, you may have already seen one or another of these.)

Each one inspires me in a different way to do and be better than I have the past year (or two or three!) in terms of being positive, making a positive difference. Perhaps they’ll inspire you, too—for whatever your mission or resolutions or word for the year may be.

Happy New Year, my friends! May 2019 be filled with many more blessings than you expect!

GRAND Social No. 333 link party for grandparents

Thank you for participating in the final GRAND Social link party for 2018! I appreciate all the amazing recipes, recommendations, and more you’ve shared throughout the year, and I look forward to all this incredible grandparent blogging community publishes in the year to come!

Cheers to 2019!

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog about grandparenting, just be a grandparent who blogs.

  • Grandparents who do not blog (or want to share something other than their own post) are welcome to add links to other posts grandparent readers may be interested in.

  • To link up a post, copy the direct URL to the specific post — new or old — that you want to share, not the link to the blog or website home page. Then click the blue button below marked "Add your link" and follow the directions.

  • I reserve the right to remove posts I feel are inappropriate. (Which hasn't happened yet, but I feel obligated to note that, just in case.)

  • Those who add links to the GRAND Social link party will be sent a weekly reminder when the party goes live. If you prefer to be removed from that email list, feel free to do so (and you'll still be more than welcome to join the party any time).

  • If adding your own post, including a mention such as This post linked to the GRAND Social to your linked posts is appreciated.

  • The GRAND Social linky accepts posts through Wednesday evening, so please come back to see those added after your first visit.

  • If you're not a linker, you have the pleasure of being a reader. Those sharing a link would be honored to have you visit, read and, if so moved, leave a comment, even if just "Hey, stopping by from the GRAND Social." Bloggers who link are encouraged to visit and comment on the links of other bloggers, as well.
