Best laid plans and GRAND Social No. 108

Best laid plans

My husband and I planned to be very productive this past weekend. Planned being the operative word.

Our deck has needed new paint for a while now, and we intended to complete the job Saturday and Sunday. We got up early Saturday and bought the paint and a couple boards to replace those we knew needed replacing on the railing.

Once home, we set about removing the boards that had to go because of dry rot. Only to find there was another... and another... and another. Turned out THREE <cuss> layers of boards — in a 38-foot span — needed to removed and replaced.

So we spent Saturday doing a whole lot of board removal. And a whole lot of cussing... on my part just as much as Jim's, I must admit.

Sunday we headed to Lowe's to buy additional boards to completely repair the railing before painting. We got them home and unloaded... then the rain set in.

Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway), the exposed and only partially completed deck railing currently stands encased in plastic to protect it from the rain. The painting has not yet started and the weekend has ended. So much for productivity.

Gah! I hope your weekend plans were far more successful.

GRAND Social No. 108

Welcome once again to the link party for grandparents! Thank you so much for joining me.

link party

How it works:

  • All grandparent bloggers are invited to add a link. You don't have to blog about grandparenting, just be a grandparent who blogs.
  • To link up a post, copy the direct URL to the specific post — new or old — that you want to share, not the link to your blog's home page. Then click the blue button below marked "Add your link" and follow the directions.
  • You can add up to three posts, but no duplicates, contests, giveaways, or Etsy sites, please.
  • Adding a mention such as This post linked to the GRAND Social to your linked posts is appreciated. Or, you can post the GRAND Social button anywhere on your page using the following code:

  • The GRAND Social linky accepts posts through Wednesday evening, so please come back to see those added after your first visit.

  • If you're not a blogger, you have the pleasure of being a reader. Those sharing a link would be honored to have you visit, read and, if so moved, leave a comment even if just "Hey, stopping by from the GRAND Social." Bloggers who link are encouraged to visit and comment on the links of other bloggers, as well.
