Empower dear ones with the Let's Be Well Diabetes Box™

My husband isn't normal. I guess a more accurate descriptor would be that he's an anomaly. See, my husband has peripheral neuropathy—numbness, tingling, pain, and worse in his feet. It's a condition most commonly due to diabetes. Yet my husband does not have diabetes, not even pre-diabetes. According to literally decades of blood tests seeking a diabetes-PN connection, there is no connection.

There are, though, chronic—and oh-so stubborn—foot wounds my husband regularly contends with, similar to the foot wounds folks with diabetes often experience. It's a confounding state, to say the least.

In light of my husband's diabetes-like but definitely-not-diabetes condition, he recently—upon the advice of his physician—chose to implement some of the measures people who do have diabetes take to manage their disease. Primarily, my husband intends to eat right and exercise regularly. It certainly can't hurt, and we definitely hope it will help.

Such measures aren't all that simple to figure out, though. Particularly when it comes to choosing foods. Attempting to research the matter online can be an overwhelming task for my husband. And for me, the menu maker, grocery shopper, and primary partner in all things related to my hubby's health.

Enter the Let's Be Well Diabetes Box™. As luck would have it, soon after my husband and I committed to incorporating diabetes-management measures into his lifestyle, I was invited to try out the innovative product resulting from many months of collaboration—and researching and testing—between AARP and the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

The exclusive ADA Content Wheel will be a tremendous help for my husband to pick and choose what he can eat as well as how much (above right he tries out the "fist measurement" as the fist on the wheel equals 1 cup).

Why diabetes?

Considering the myriad chronic health conditions plaguing Americans, why the focus on diabetes? Because diabetes is an epidemic, devastating our country physically, emotionally, financially. To wit:

  • Nearly 10 percent of the U.S. population has diabetes
  • 1.5 million American are diagnosed every year
  • Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, killing more Americans every year than AIDS and breast cancer combined

Although there is no cure for diabetes, it can be managed. The goal of the Let's Be Well Diabetes Box™ is to empower people with the disease to do that. After perusing (and using) the goodies in the box, my husband and I dub it diabetes management made easy.

And an inexpensive gift, as the boxes make exceptionally thoughtful presents for people living with diabetes. Family caregivers—as well other family and friends—can help promote healthy habits by purchasing a Let's Be Well Diabetes Box™ to be delivered right to the doorstep of a loved one. The boxes are available only online at LetsBeWellBox.com and cost $49.99 (retail value for all nine products is over $75). Plus, shipping is free. All the revenue from the Let's Be Well Diabetes Boxes will go to supporting the social mission work of AARP and the ADA.

The Let's Be Well Diabetes Box™ is designed to benefit anyone with Type 1, Type II, or Pre-Diabetes. Or any husband who's not normal, err, an anomaly ... at least when it comes to diabetes.
