Photo replay: Time to slip and slide

No access to a pool, so A/C and indoor board games were my favorite ways to stay cool on a hot summer day.

Thankfully, my outdoorsy long-time BFF still loves me!

Cute picture! When I was a kid, going to the public pool was pretty much the only way to stay cool.

Great photo!!! Going to the beach has always been my favorite way to cool off although as a child that beach was of a lake and not the ocean. During the summer they would run school buses from the high school to that beach which was about 6 miles away. The buses ran 3 days a week -- I hated the other 2 days! I often wonder if they run those buses anymore. We were completely unchaperoned and I remember making those rides alone from about 1st grade on. We had a blast!

My favorite way to cool off in HOT North Carolina summers as a kid were similar to Bubby's fun at the ranch but with more water. Going to Rockfish Creek, Aberdeen Lake, or Carolina Beach was the way to go! Of course, part of the cooling off had to do with the cold chills all kids got from the fact that there were water moccasins on the other side of the creek and lake and, at the beach, someone fishing off the pier would snag a jelly-fish or, honestly, a hammer head shark, once that I saw! The lifeguard would blow a whistle and everyone would do a version of "slip and slide" trying to get back onto the beach with the sand and waves sliding out from under your feet, just about guaranteeing that you were about to die, either from drowning, getting trampled, or eaten by a shark. Yep, fun times as a kid.

My favorite way to stay cool in the summer when I was a kid was to go to the beach in Hawaii. When I lived in the mainland...it was running thru the sprinkler in our back yard.

    Stay cool my friend!

...running through the sprinkler in our yard....

The water was nice and cold, and we usually got half a Popsicle as a snack afterward.

Love the photo of Buddy Lisa.

My favourite place was swimming in Lake Taupo which is in the middle of the North Island.

Handsome boy, wonderful smile. When I was a child, I'd go to a brook near my grandparents' farm and just float in an old inner tube. The water was freezing cold coming off the mountains, but you cooled down fast. Simple but good times.

When I was little, my favorite way to cool off was to play in the sprinkler. When I was around 12, we started riding our bicycles to the public pool.

Playing in the sprinkler was it!

I used to take a glass of ice to bed with me, rub the cubes on my feet and sleep with my feet on an open window sill.
