Photo replay: Can it be?
Sunday, July 15, 2012 Can it really be that this year, our fifth summer in this house, our plums will finally, finally survive the heat and drought and bugs to reach their full and edible glory for the very first time since we've lived here?
Yesterday, one of our many plum trees.
I sure hope so.
(And I sure hope I didn't just jinx it.)
Today's question:
What tips do you have for preventing bugs and other critters from ruining plum—and apple and peach—trees?

Oh! There is nothing better than fresh plums. How wonderful to have them in your backyard. That makes me totally jealous. (And I hope I didn't add to any jinx.) ;)
Knowing nothing about fruit trees I can't help you! But I would help you eat them!
I don't know much of anything about raising fruit trees but plan to plant some cherry trees and a Cleveland pear tree or two for next spring, purely for their beautiful blossoms; figure I'll pour gallons of vitamin 1 root start on their root ball when I plant them, water thoroughly nearly constantly, and include Miracle Grow for Trees frequently; maybe they will grow if all that effort does not OVER-feed them and kill them with kindness.
Sure am glad for you to finally see fruit after all these years of waiting. Congratulations!
My best tip is let someone else grow them :D We really have issues out here with bugs and birds. I had a peach tree once but we moved before it was big enough to produce much. Good luck with yours.
I hope they survive! The only edible plant I've ever had was a bean plant, and those things are so hardy that I didn't have to do anything but water them every now and then.
This looks amazing. Keep us posted on how they taste!!
