The Saturday Post: Poem for my grandsons edition
As a grandmother, I'd like to think I have abundant wisdom to share with my grandsons. No need for me to try putting into poetic form advice on being kind and good and true in a world that is often the very opposite of such things, though. Rudyard Kipling already did that—far better than I ever could—when he wrote If.
Kipling wrote If in 1895 in a very different time and place, yet his advice and inspiration still stand true today—for my grandsons, for all of us.
I love Kipling's poem and plan to share it with Bubby and Baby Mac and all my grandchildren to come when they're old enough to understand. Today, though, I'll share it with you.
Enjoy your Saturday!

My grandfather had this framed and sitting by his recliner for as long as I knew him. He actually lived by these words. Would that I could.....IF?
That poem has always seemed like a pretty hard assignment to me...but, it sets worthwhile goals.
Thanks for posting it, gives us all another look at things we should be trying to attain.
I voted for you :) :) :)
It is a wonderful poem and as Ann said -- very worthwhile goals. Thanks for sharing and for all the reminders it contained!
Thanks for your post today. My husband kept this poem with him when he was in the Navy....when he was deployed and away from me for months at a time. He presented it to our son when he went off to college.
It's always been one of my favorite poems. Thanks for sharing.
"If" was one of my Mother's favorite poems, Lisa. She recited it by heart all the time to my siblings and I when we were growing up. I love poetry because of my Mom....it is a beautiful gift to pass on
I hope Andrea is feeling well!
