18 things I love about October

    Leaves dancing in the street.

    Snow on Pikes Peak.

Taking the sunshades down from my kitchen skylights.

Pumpkin-flavored anything and everything. (Except pumpkin-flavored macaroni and cheese. Which I have tried...and didn't like.)

The anticipation and excitement of little ones looking forward to Halloween. Not just my grandsons but even those I hear in stores, chattering away to Mom about the costumes they want, what their friends plan to be, the candy they love.

Lady in White, which I watch this time of year every year.

    Sweater weather.

    Sock and slipper weather, too.

Kids in Halloween costumes. Especially when they look like this:

    Or this:

(Megan will surely one day pay for the cuteness she foisted upon her boys.)

Indian Summer. Far less hot and harsh than regular summer.

No more watering or worrying about the flowers and more in the front yard, back yard, side yard.

No more fans scattered about the house.

Snuggling once again with my cat Abby, who was continually pushed away during hot weather.

Blankets back on the beds. And curling up under them for my nightly read.

The first wafts of smoke from wood burning in a neighbor's fireplace. (We typically wait til November to burn a fire in ours.)

    Caramel apple taffy.

Visits with my grandsons. We always visit in October. This year I'm fortunate to have two visits planned—one at the end of this week, another at the end of the month. An extra-special reason to love this October in particular.

    Today's question:

What do you love about October?

So cute! I'll say she is going to have to pay big time. OR she can hide those pictures and threaten to show them to middle school friends or high school sweethearts in exchange for desired behavior.

Apple pie would be my favorite part of October. And my grandson is way into Halloween and turns his room into a haunted house.

I love the crisp air of October and a visit to the pumpkin patch. I'd also love a trip to Olga's if she's serving fresh apple pie...yum!

Here in Southern California, it's going to be 98 degrees today. I hate it. Even after 36 years of living here, I still miss the autumn weather of my New York childhood. Such a fun list!

Your fall list is mine, too - we expect some snow here tomorrow.

I love all the things you named but the extra-special shade of blue in Colorado skies during October (when acting as background for the changing aspens) lifts my spirits every day I get to see them before the snow flies.

Those boys look enchanting, hope they have a dandy Halloeen.

That's a great list, Lisa. Those boys are just too cute for words!
What do I love about October? It's my son's birthday, the glorious colors of the leaves, the annual wine fest featuring wines from all over Maryland, and candy corn!

31 things! Every single day. Every single thing about October is a love fest for me. The blue, blue skies in October. The crisp air. Seeing adorable little ones in costumes such as your pictures here. And I recognize Pikes Peak - so near and dear to my heart.

I love the additions, ladies! Crisp air, blue skies, apple pies...yes! Oh, and wine. Yes, yes, yes, wine! So much to love about October. My only request would be that it please last longer than just 31 days. (And for Barb to not get too much snow as it's snow that will likely head my way soon after hitting her place.)

And Sharon: Ugh! I don't know how you handle that kind of heat. And for 36 years!? You're far more hardy than I, that's for sure.

The lower 80s temp today certainly doesn't feel like October, but I guess that is going to change in a couple of days. I love the golden glow that the trees around my house give to the air around them.

We're having marvelous weather down here in Texas, too, although, let's see, the ragweed is till out and we don't need blankets yet.

Halloween costumes are so much cuter than they used to be, aren't they? When we were kids the "store bought" ones were really tacky and cheaply made. Of course, I always wanted one anyway, because we always devised our own costumes. I thought having a "store bought" one would be a treat!

I loved those few days we had rain in late September. I'd like a few more in October. Rain, not snow. I love the sound and smell of it. I love being able to use my umbrella, or curling up under a blanket to read a book. I also love that it only lasts a day or so, and then I can go back to sitting on my porch or riding my bicycle.

those are some cute kids! and some great reasons to love october. i love the fall months too.

Cooler weather for sure! Cute pics Lisa, I would thats a pretty good list too.

Gosh I do miss autumn in Colorado! So beautiful. I remember taking that yearly drive up into the mountains to view the changing colors of the aspen trees. Breathtaking! And the smell of wood-burning fireplaces....nothing like it. I don't even turn my gas fireplace on here in my apartment except for once a year, on Christmas. October is just an awesome month from beginning to end. Enjoy every second, my friend...especially those grandsons!

Wonderful pictures and yes, Megan will likely pay!

Halloween with kids and candy and decorations would be enough, but you have given me even more reasons to love one of my favorite months. How cute are those costumes??
