    My addiction: The first step

They say the first step in overcoming an addiction is admitting you have a problem.

    Well, I have a problem.

    I'm addicted to books.

Here's proof—my rows upon rows, shelves upon shelves of books:

No, those aren't duplicates. I do indeed have that many books, that many bookcases and hiding places.

And no, I've not read them all. Most, but not all. I'm not addicted to reading them, just accumulating them.

I have no idea what the second step is, but I have a feeling it's not gonna be easy.

    Today's question:

    What is your addiction?

I would feel like I'd died and gone to Heaven with all those books around me...lucky you! However, I'm addicted to reading them and not accumulating them.

Running a very close second is my addiction to chocolate. Reading a book with chocolate in my hand...sheer bliss.

I'm another huge book lover. Always have one with me for those odd moments when you have to wait in line or wait for someone. Jenna had a Kindle and got a Nook so she has "loaned" me the Kindle. Took a couple of days to get used to not turning pages but I love it.

However I think my true addiction is my camera. It is a good think life is now digital because I could never afford to get them all developed! I took over 4000 pictures just last year!

Susie: Ah, but it's the physical book that captures my heart, makes me want to possess it. Although I would love to have an e-reader of any sort...eventually. Maybe I could sell off some of the books on my shelves and make enough to purchase one. (Just mentioning getting rid of my books just then made my heart race. Seriously.) Yes, my name is Lisa and I'm a book addict.

I'm addicted to books too, but to reading them, not necessarily owning them. I read them then trade them for children's books so I have a growing library for the grands.

Books are an honorable addiction. LOL I love books, I love reading and writing so very much. Unfortunately, though, my addiction is with food. Been fighting that one my whole life.

Ha! I love books too! I'm down to 2 bookcases though. Was addicted to Dr Pepper :), over it now. I think now I must be addicted to searching for and reading grandparenting blogs currently!

I'm SO glad you love books like I always have...and thank God that most all of my kids love to read them. Non-readers can never be quite right (in my opinion). Having moved so many times and also down-sizing has seriously depleted my book inventory but I still have enough to keep me happy. I'm glad you have big enough house to keep all those treasures. Lucky girl.

Addicted, hummm - right now, blogging and following blogs. Before that, charcoal drawing, before that, tennis, before that........well you get my drift. Addiction, or present passionate pastimes?

I'm addicted to books too. I love books! I have several book cases full of books. Some of the books I especially like I pick up a duplicate at Good Will or garage sales so I can have one to loan. I don't have too many loaners.

I have a ton of cookbooks too. I'm having to restrain myself with those. You can only cook so many things in one lifetime. (But, I collect recipes too, ugh!)

Books. Cupcakes. Researching things that I never accomplish. Scented candles. Preferably all at once.

Books are not a bad thing to be addicted to.....I love books too!

I'm addicted to cake.....any kind of cake, which is bad if I want to lose weight! Everytime I go to the grocery store I have to buy one of those single pieces of cake....at least it's not a whole cake!

Too Funny! But don't worry, Step 2 is easy, you just need to believe that a power greater that yourself can restore you to sanity...it doesn't get tough until at least Step 4, LOL

By the way...if you get a Kindle, then no one really knows how many books you have, hee hee.

Starbucks, but I have a book shelf in the basement that looks about like that.

I have a couple of friends who have said the same thing about the love & feel of books ~ they didn't think they would like the Kindle ~ they both love it now! But they also admit they still love their real books =)

:-) I love your addiction. I have a similar one - and probably at least eight times this volume of books. (yes, they are my only wealth!) My son is showing signs of the same madness too = so that makes three of us amassing books. In addition, I have over 800 digital books to read on my e-reader. :D I have loads of music tapes and video cassettes too - but i am gradually solving that prob with mp3s, DVDs and an external hard drive where we can store all that stuff. Reels and reels of negatives and photo albums slowly replaced by scanning them and a digital camera :D Still - Sigh. What can I say? Fifteen years ago when I got married, I donated over 300 books to my local library and friends.

i wonder what you next step is :-) i am smiling evilly to myself!
