11 things I learned last year

No. 6: Two grandsons are better than one.

    1. How to make salmon, cut mango, appreciate the delights of a boldly flavored balsamic vinegar.

    2. Every once in a while hype is well warranted. Case in point: Adele.

    3. The older I get, the more unbidden kindness and consideration matters, makes a difference.

    4. My black thumb is apparently permanently tattooed that color and will never transform into green. (Though I'll surely give transformation yet another attempt this year.)

    5. Despite the complaints and bad press, I'm unashamed to admit I love Netflix. Especially instant streaming for without it, I'd never know the thrills, chills, and chuckles of Friday Night Lights, Sons of Anarchy, Nativity!.

    6. Two grandsons are indeed double the fun, double the pleasure of one and two of my life's greatest pleasures day in, day out, whether I see them or not.

    7. Although decades removed from the drama and trauma of the teen years, mid-life friendships are still fickle affairs. Some flounder and fade for reasons unclear, while others grow and glow brighter than ever—also for reasons unclear yet much appreciated.

    8. Committing yourself to fulfilling your heart's desire is worth far more than money. Most of the time.

    9. Less really isn't more, it's still less—especially when it comes to having. But it's manageable, survivable, easier than previously believed.

    10. There are benefits to having less, though: It highlights the abundance of blessings remaining for which to be endlessly grateful: a loving family, a welcoming home, continued co-pay assistance.

    11. Those things that go bump in the night at my house really are just my boogedy boiler. (Or so I keep telling myself...and my houseguests.)

    Today's question:

What did you learn last year?

Lovely Lisa and I agree with no7, we expect friendships made when we're older to last but sometimes they're just not meant to be. I 've never cooked salmon and I'm rubbish at gardening.

    1) How to change a baby boy's diaper...quickly

    2) That a human heart will expand to love even more...especially when Grandchildren are involved

    3) The glass is always half full, not half empty

    4) I can still learn from my Mom (see #3)

    5) To speak and act with no regret and no apology... especially where hatred and discrimination exist.

    6) HTML, CSS, jquery, and all things related to web pages are necessary evils. Truly evil.

    7) There are some things I just don't care to learn (see #6) and some people I don't want as friends (see #5)

    8) Blessings abound everywhere

    9) I'm madly in love with my DVR

    10) Those things that go bump in the night are not your boiler...:)

I almost forgot one of my biggest lessons!!!

USPS Priority will get it there just as fast (if not faster)...and often much less $...swear I never knew this...a complete shock to me.

I'm stronger than I ever thought possible. I was also reminded I have amazing friends and a wonderful family.

I learned last year that I could in fact create a new WordPress theme! And that I could create a couple of pretty cool child themes, too! Now if I could just find time to do and learn more......

I learned that sometimes dreams do come true.

One of the lessons I learned last year is that some people are just plain ugly inside and nothing can be done to change it.

I probably learned lots of things last year but, with my memory being what it is lately, I've forgotten what they were.

I've learned so much in the last couple of years; I couldn't begin to list it all. It's been one eye-opening discovery after the other. And who said "You can't teach an old dog new tricks"? Wrong. This old dog has several new tricks. And looking forward to learning even more.

I'm trying to forget the last year, but I love your list!

I learned a lot about hospice and end-of-life issues, lessons I would have gladly missed, but, as my dad said, dying is a part of living.

I learned that it's hard to schedule time with teenage grandchildren, so enjoy your grandchildren while they are young. Never pass up an opportunity to spend time with them.

I learned that Christmas is much better if you shop online.

Good lessons. I have learned life is as busy in my sixties as ever, but my body has a harder time keeping up. I've learned to let go of trying to control others' lives... okay "am learning." I've learned that blogging is good even if I'm not world famous, because sometimes reading my old posts is enlightening even if just recalling for me what I'd already forgotten.
