What I would NOT do if I won the lottery

The last couple weeks I've been involved in a thing or two only because I need the money. I'm not talking drug peddling or prostitution or any other equally unsavory deed, just things I really wouldn't be doing if I didn't need the money.

Which has gotten me thinking about a few other things I wouldn't be doing if I had more money.

If I won the lottery, I would no longer:

    • clip coupons for grocery shopping.

    • go to the grocery store, for that matter; I'd shop online and have my groceries delivered.

    • drive to Denver each time I fly somewhere; I'd fly out of my local airport, no matter the cost.

    • drive my dinged-up 1998 Ford Explorer...to Denver or anywhere.

    • feel like my blog photos are inferior; I'd have a better camera and take photography AND Photoshop classes.

    • be without cable television.

    • buy my dog's food at Walmart.

    • feel guilty that my piano has not been touched in months as I spend nearly every waking moment on tasks that might make a penny here and a penny there.

    • delete without viewing the weekly e-mail newsletter announcing upcoming concerts and performances.

    • deal with obnoxious neighbors; I'd build an 8- to 10-foot-tall fence (height depending on ordinances I've not yet researched). Or I'd move.

    • turn down invitations to cover interesting events because I don't have the travel budget to get there.

That said, at least I'm able to buy groceries and dog food, have a vehicle to drive, can fly to see my daughter and grandsons now and then, and receive invitations to attend interesting events.

Yes, things could indeed be far worse.

Still, it sure would be awesome to win the lottery.

    Or Publishers Clearing House.

    I'm not picky.

(Just a complainer now and then.)

    Today's question:

If you won the lottery, what would you NOT do?

If I won the lottery I would NOT spend the months of Jan. thru March in Chicago.

By the way, I like your blog photos. They're 'real'...thanks for sharing!

If I won the lottery I would not be temping!

I would be going with Jenna to take Amara to school and pick her up, I would work more in the classroom, I would be working more in the backyard, etc. etc. etc and I would be loving every minute of it. Stupid budget anyway!

    I'd NOT be praying such long specific prayers every night, begging for good health, financial freedom and spiritual happiness for all my loved ones;
I WOULD be thanking God I'd been able to pay off all their mortgages, buy them new cars, and give them money to have some of the things they want most.
Til then, I can be thankful for those things they DO have, however hard the struggle they have to
    maintain them.
For me, I don't need much.

We were actually talking about this recently. I said that I would never buy silly sports cars like Lamborghinis. They're just impractical and useless IMO. I would, however, have places to live all over the world.

I wouldn't suddenly want a huge oversize ostentatious house. I like modest means and modest living. The things I would do would be along the lines of making life easier, not suddenly 'living large'. The supposed lifestyles of the rich and famous' have no appeal to me.

If I won the lottery I would not be where I'm at now, I would be in my dream, beach house in Hawaii. But I would still be reading your blog everyday!

DEBBIE: Thanks, my friend. My blog is indeed one of the few things I would still be doing if I won the lottery. :o)

EVERYONE: Loving the dreams. Maybe we should pool our funds and go for the big one together!

I'm sorry to hear you have to struggle at this time of your life. The greater economic problems affect us in such real ways. But good attitude to hold gratitude for what you have. If I won the lottery, I wouldn't change my life or lifestyle but I'd be in more of a position to help other family members.

I would not have just a Hugo to get around with (a rolling walker with a seat too high to sit on comfortably). I would have one of those electric carts of my own and not rely on WalMart for one of their few to use when I went in to the store. I would not wait til someone was free to take me to the grocery store, I would have cataract surgery and get my drivers license again and get a lift to carry that wishful thinking electric cart on my Tracker. It would make me indipendant again. I would not have to worry about my disabilaty check lasting through the month. I think that's enough of what I wouldn't do's. I prefer the what I can still do's more that this.

If I won lotto I wouldn't buy a new car, I certainly wouldn't shift, love the view of the harbour. I wouldn't stop coming here, I wouldn't stop working on my own site.

One of the things that I would definitely do is donate more money to help rebuild my beloved Christchurch after the devastating earthquakes that they have experienced.

If I won the lottery I would not keep it all! I'd give quite a bit to my children and grandchildren to make their lives easier. I'd also give quite a bit to soem favorite charities.

I won't win, as I never play the lottery..lol..but a litlte extra $ would be very nice!

    September 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPat

Gosh, if I won the lottery, I would NOT be working phone tech support. I would not be walking around with bad teeth. I would not think twice about visiting my sons, grandsons and Dad whenever I felt like it. I would not feel guilty about a luxurious Mani and Pedi at my fave spa.

I could go on and on, but I won't. Thanks. That was fun!

If I lived won the lottery, I would NOT live in a place where it's 102 degrees on September 26. I would also NOT continue to make monthly payments because everything would be paid off, including my kids' college loans.

We often play "if we won the lottery" when we're on long road trips. It's one of our favorite ways to pass the time. My husband says he doesn't want to win a large jackpot because it would spoil our kids. I say, bring it on!

    September 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGrams

I'd need more time to think about what I wouldn't do ~ I'm slow. I think I can go along with many of the things on your list.

But, before I forget, I just wanted to say I really like your blog photos and and really enjoy your blogs too! I'm glad I found you. I hope you do them for a long time.

I hope your money situation improved soon! (Are you buying those lottery tickets and sending in your Publisher's Clearing House?) Ha, ha

I would not mow the lawn or do the gardening ever again. I would hire someone to do it!

    September 27, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAnnette

I wouldn't clean the house or do yard work. I would hire someone to do it. I also would not clip coupons. And I wouldn't look at the price tags first when I go shopping for clothes. I would not move because this is where my grandchildren are, but I would take lots of trips north during our grueling summers. I would not buy an expensive car because I think they are obscene. But I might buy a hybrid.

    September 28, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSusan Adcox

I would not give my children and grandchildren so much that they missed out on the feeling from working and doing a good job.
