The Saturday Post: Zeppelin wedding song edition

As of tomorrow, Jim and I will have been married 29 years. When planning our wedding all those kajillion years ago, we knew right away that we wanted "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin as our wedding song. Our pastor, on the other hand, said, "I will puke if you play that song." Seriously.

So we relented and simply had my sister read the lyrics to "Thank You" as a poem during the ceremony. Our official song ended up being the generic but still lovely and fitting "The Wedding Song" by Paul Stookey...played on guitar and sung by our non-puking pastor.

In honor of our anniversary, here is the song Jim and I consider our real wedding song, albeit a more recent, more mellow version than the original. Just so no one will puke.

    Happy 29th anniversary, Jim!

    Today's question:

    What was your wedding song?

    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Jerry and I didn't have a wedding song; we were married by a judge and they'd probably have locked me away if I'd started whooping and singing in the judge's chambers.

Love that song!!! Congratulations on your wedding anniversary, my friend. Give Jim a hug for me.
The wedding song for my first marriage was "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. I think that was the name of it. Marriage didn't last, so we did only just begin, I guess. LOL

Wedding song for second marriage was played at the reception since we got married at the court house. It was "Could I Have This Dance?" by Anne Murray. Beautiful song. Marriage also didn't last, but the song is timeless.

Have a wonderful anniversary/fathers day weekend!
    HUGS,
    Terri

I honestly don't remember any of the songs from my previous weddings. If the S.O. and I ever have a wedding and I had to pick a song, it would probably be "Accidentally in Love" by The Counting Crows.

Happy Anniversary to you and Jim!

Our wedding song was "The Wedding Song" by Paul Stookey too! I wanted "We've Only Just Begun" but my soon to be hubby didn't like the Carpenters. I love your original song though!

Happy Anniversary. We had exactly the same song "The Wedding Song" because it was the only one of all the choices that the priest would approve. All the other choices were considered secular.

It seems that once the ceremony starts no secular music is allowed. As our mothers were seated, they sang "Sunrise, Sunset" and as we exited the church "We've Only Just Begun."

Interesting trivia, in our diocese, most Catholic churches will no longer allow the traditional "Here Comes the Bride" because it also is considered secular.

Happy anniversary!!! My hubby and I celebrated 11 yrs yesterday. Our song was Martina McBride's Valentine. It sounds so corny now. But so lovely then. Hahaha!

Congratulations! on your 29th anniversary. Wishing you many many more fullfilled years together.
For my wedding there was no music or song. We were married at the justice of peace and then my husband went searching for a motorcycle part and to the place where he had a piece chromed for his Harley Hog. For our honeymoon we worked on building the big bike then he took me on a ride and i was screaming the blues in his ears and pounding him on his back to stop that thing and let me off so I could walk home. He thought it fun to skirt on the edge of the drop off of the mountain road we were on about 5 miles from the house.. I was mad and he was laughing at me. 1974 was a long time ago. The divorce came a few years later. Thanks for the provoked memory.

Happy Anniversary Lisa and Jim! We also had "The Wedding Song" played at our wedding 35+ years ago -- I always loved its lyrics. At our reception we danced out first dance to "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce. I also remember "Rolling on the River" was a big hit that year ..lol

The best concert we ever attended was a Lead Zeppelin concert!

Happy Anniversary and congratulations on a huge accomplishment! May you have at least 40 more wonderful years together!!!

We didn't have a wedding song because we had a rather non-traditional wedding. However, it should have been "Even tho' we ain't got money...".lol.

Unfortunately, I can't recall song names only lyrics.

30 years later I'd have to say I'm partial to..."We're still having fun and you're still the one"...except for the days he's getting on my nerves::)

Hope you had a wonderful day together!!

Happy Anniversary! I wish you many many more!
We didn't have a wedding song but on our 25th anniversary, Alan Jackson's 'Remember When' was popular and we agreed that summed it up for us!

Greatest salutations on your anniversary! Live on the edge - take a big swig of Geritol, eat an extra helping of Metamucil, and dance on the tabletops until dawn.

Congrats on 3 decades. 8 bet there have been some tough times along with the good.

Our song is "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" by the Beatles. But we didn't play it at our wedding.
