    13 things that scare me

During this spooky season, it's not goblins and ghosts that give me goosebumps, but these...

    13 things that scare me:

    • Holiday potlucks with people I don't know well enough to have been to their house to see how they prepare food

    • Holiday potlucks with some of the people I do know well enough to have been to their house to see how they prepare food

    • The sound of rocks being stacked, reminding me of Crowhaven Farm

    • One of my grandkids...or kids...or Jim...or myself falling down the millions of stairs in my house

    • The state of our society as we struggle to adjust to and compensate for the thousands (millions?) of jobs lost that will never return

    • Grown men in Speedos

    • Having a flat tire in a dark, relatively seedy part of Denver after a PR event. (Which, believe it or not, happened last night. Luckily Brianna drove, Brianna changed the tire...while I used my iPhone as a flashlight for her.)

    My boiler

    • Sleeping with one hand over the edge of the bed

    • Jim's driving (It's not him, it's me...most of the time)

    • No life insurance

    • Having an angry—or amorous—buck charge me and the dogs while on our morning walk

    • The possibility I may never have a book traditionally published

    Today's question:

    What scares you?

What a great list! (add Twilight zone music)...hmmm...what scares me:

    • A closet door open when going to bed
    • Driving through Central Illinois after midnight with no streetlights and nothing but cornfields for company
    • Driving through Central Illinois cornfields anytime with tornado sirens blaring
    • Discovering my Granddaughter with a quarter in her mouth again
    • Mountains and big hills (long story)
    • That my hubby will answer the door (again) at 3am to a stranger's knock...think divorce!
    • Restaurant workers who aren't reading the signs in the bathroom
    • An airplane going down while I'm using the washroom

So much more, but I don't want you to think I'm neurotic. LOL.

How did I miss Crowhaven Farm? I love scary movies!!

I love the food prep ones, Lisa. It hasn't really occured to me until now that that would be a fear of mine but I never buy prepared food at a farmer's market or fair. But it must be.
I don't fear much these days, which is odd in such uncertain economic times.
Don't give up on the book deal dream!

I love your list....the one with you and Brianna in Denver actually scared me too!

Here is a few things that scare me:
I am afraid of heights.....especially flying.
My granddaughter approaching pre-teen age scares me.
    The state of our economy.
Scary movies....which I refuse to watch.

    Milo's labored breathing
My phone ringing in the middle of the night
Cars speeding down the street in front of my house
    And Zombies!

    * When the husband is late coming home... and is riding the motorcycle.
    * The dog getting run over. (He pulls on that leash.)
    * Cancer.
    * And of course, failure. :)

See...this is what I love about your blog. I find out the most interesting things about you. Who would've known that you were scared of the sound of rocks being stacked?

Me? I'm scared of cows. Like if one is close, I start feeling panicky. On our last camping trip in the national forest, I was much more freaked out by the cows grazing nearby than the thought of a bear coming into our campsite. No. I'm not kidding.

I love your list. At first I was smiling, then, I was thinking, yeah, scary.

I am hoping to be through all the scary things in life. Raising teenagers was the scariest for me. It was like living with aliens from another planet.

Now that we are done with that everything else seems pretty fright free.

I'm the most "scared" person I know; afraid of just about everything your commenters have said so far. But, mostly, I'd never have given permission for you and Brianna to be out in the dark-night in ANY part of Denver, ever.

But, I'm no afraid of the sound of rocks being stacked.

Great list. I too fear sleeping with a hand (or foot) dangling over the side of the bed. That is just invinting the monster under the bed to come out and bite it off.

Oh yeah, and Nonnie Kelly's comment about open closet doors? Totally scary. And not just because my closets are a freaking mess.

    October 20, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPammeey

When I let myself think about it, I'm frightened by:
    * the possibility of something, anything, happening to my grandbabies
    * ditto for their parents
    * the possibility (or probability?) of something happening to hubby or me before we're "ready"

Those are vague. Think automobile accidents, tumors, weird falls, stuff like that.

But I can't live with fear. I just ask the Universe to protect us, and try to live with care.

    Awesome list!

I'm not afraid of very many things but I am deathly afraid of snakes. OK, just typing the word about did me in. We refer to them as "the s words". I don't even want to turn the page in a magazine if there is a picture of one, just close the magazine and walk away. Grampy will fast forward through them while I squeeze my eyes shut as tight as they will go.

OK and I am just a tad frightened by the fact I don't have health insurance.

Yea the potluck thing would definitely be on my list.
    And....
Spiders and Snakes and other critters of questionable huggability.
    Driving on ice.
    No life insurance.
No decent job and no decent prospects.
Not seeing my kids and grandkids enough.
    High places.
    Dark places.
    Lonely places.
    Undefined places (poetic, huh).
OK I"m done. I'm not scared of anything else AT ALL.
    Really..........

Some thing happening to my precious grandchildren.
    My husband dying.
Earthquakes because you never know when they are going to stop.
Spiders don't like the look of them.
Wetters - a New Zealand creature it looks pre-historic & can bite
    Getting lost.
    Being in a car accident.

There's some interesting scared of items so far. I'll have to come back later and read the rest for sure as we are one bunch of scaredy cats here.. I also share a lot of the listed things to be scared of. In addition I am scared of the dark and have been since a childdhood trauma. I am very scared of the way our country is headed. Some others are; crowds, the behavior of people on drugs, another bad vehicle accident, identity thieves, extremely judgemental people, and one last one, never getting to be the person I was prior to a debilitating accident. OOPS! another one I was reminded of, Alshiemers (sp.) My Dad once told me there is nothing to fear but fear itself when I was a child. But he didn't tell me how to conquer it. Thus I will stay indoors on Halloween.
