    Waste not, want not

Because of a recent trip to the grocery store followed by a patio party in which lots of people left lots of stuff, today I have the following fresh produce in my house:

    • black grapes
    • red plums
    • cantaloupe
    • watermelon
    • lemons
    • limes
    • tomatoes
    • cucumbers
    • onions -- red and white
    • zucchini
    • summer squash
    • leaf lettuce
    • carrots
    • celery
    • bananas
    • green peppers
    • green onions
    • cilantro
    • mint

Ugh! All that for just me and Jim!

With Jim not being much of a fruit or veggie eater, looks like I'll be making a visit to Crunchy Betty to come up with ways to use some of the goods on my face and body -- not just in it -- before it all goes to waste.

    Today's question:

What fresh produce do you have in your house right now?

    Or.....

you could fed ex some to me ;0)

I have a 75 lb pumpkin growing and getting bigger by the day. That is the extent of my garden.

Good luck with all that! Sounds about normal for our house, though. Off the top of my head, I know we have two kinds of lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, basil, cilantro, parsley, radishes, onions, green onions, potatoes, broccoli, apples, oranges, jalapenos, other peppers, spinach.... I think that's it. :)

I'm down to potatoes, onions, carrots and celery. Poor me.

This morning I have grapes, bananas, onions, carrots and spinach. Last night, I had much more but used it to make Shrimp Veracruzana. Yum.

I know what you mean about the excess produce. I'm always tempted to buy too much for two people! Right now, I've only got lettuce ... because I'm trying to eat everything up before we go on a trip! It kills me to have to throw fresh produce away.

Wow, you have enough to have your own farmers market or roadside stand!

I always covet the tubs of different veggies that have been freshly chopped behind the shiny glass fridge doors at Panda Express restaurants. I comment on them to my husband every time we are there.'I would love to have a fridge just like that!" I barely get a nod let alone a nano second of shared coveting.

I have a low supply at the moment....apples and onions...not a very tasty combo. :) I would be happy to help you with your bounty if I could, green peppers and cantaloupe are the only 2 I couldn't use on the whole list! Hope you find lots of great ways to use them.

Your should try freezing some veggies and fruits for the winter to use in stews, soups and pies, Lisa. My garden tomatoes are now turning red and I've been picking peppers for a few weeks. :)

Hey there! First time at your blog by way of 31DDBB w SITS! I like the name! Even though I am a grandma, I don't love being called that! Didn't help that I became a grandma at 34! So I am called Nana and now I have 6, ALMOST 7 grandchildren! And I still don't like being called a grandma, I mean, I am in my early 40s for heavens sake! I will def be following you! And come visit me!

As far as produce goes, I probably throw away enough to feed a small Afrrican village! Shame on me!

I have quite a bit, too, left over from the baby shower I threw last weekend. But I do love fruits and veggies, so I'm a happy camper.

Are chips a produce? You know in a bi-product kind of way?

Love, love, love your header- so appropriate for me today- I told myself I could indulge and order a new VS bra in GRAPE ;-) with lace hiphugger panties ONLY if I cleaned out my lingerie drawer. Well, guess what finally went- 80% of the thongs- that's it- thong no more- just saving a few in case I want to get wild when I kick box ;-)

I knew I had to comment after I read your post cuz I had to send you a link to Jeanne's post of ~ month ago- you will have a hoot- she is a doll http://raisinchronicles.blogspot.com/2010/07/vegetative-state.html

Husband does all the cooking- I will check with him on any recipes --
    great blog
