Time marches on

Related Posts with ThumbnailsToday is Jim's birthday ... the 29th birthday of his that we've celebrated together.

Like many long-time wives, I spend far more time complaining about my husband than I do complimenting him. So today, for his birthday, I'd like to do something a little different.

My top 10 reasons why I love my husband:

  1. He makes the bed every morning and helps with the dinner dishes every night.
  2. He loves independent and subtitled films as much as I do.
  3. Bubby's the cheese on his pizza, too, even though he'd never put it that way (and said I sounded really weird when I wrote that post).
  4. He has unflagging faith in my ability to make a living as a freelance writer, even to the point of encouraging me to not apply for jobs and not accept ones I'm offered -- despite our dwindling savings.
  5. He sings loud and proud and can sound just like Johnny Cash, Jeff Keith, Randy Travis, Brent Smith, Bobby Darin and Vusi Mahlasela from the South African township of Mamelodi ... to name just a few.
  6. He willingly buys tampons for me when I ask -- and gladly purchased the Black Forest cakes for the "period parties" we threw when each of the girls had their first period.
  7. The more grey he gets, the more handsome he becomes.
  8. He loves Lyla, Isabel and Abby even though he tries to pretend Mickey is the one and only animal for him.
  9. He's given me shots, changed my catheter bag and literally carried me to the doctor when I couldn't walk. And would do it again in a heartbeat, if need be.
  10. He's my forever partner in parenting, grandparenting ... and home repair.

Happy birthday, Jim. I kinda think you are the cheese on my pizza, too!

Today's question:

What was your best birthday celebration ever?

My answer: The year Megan scared the hell out of me surprised me on my birthday by flying home to be at the house when I got home from work. (And Jim kept the secret for months!)

What a wonderful post. Husbands are kinda cool, even though they can drive us crazy. Happy Birthday to Jim!

My best birthday celebration was the year I turned 40. Pearl Jam performed 4 shows around and on my birthday and I attended 3 of those shows and one bar night with a 90's cover band where I met PJ friends from the internet!! Definitely a birthday memory I will treasure forever.

It is really easy to complain about them, even if they're fabulous, isn't it? I know I'm guilty.

I have to say 30 was pretty good with the surprise BBQ and the puppy, but when I was 10, my mother created a whole Wheel of Fortune game for us -- with one of those standing spin-to-win wheels -- and baked oversized, individual cupcakes for everyone. That was pretty amazing of her.

I love him, too, for all those things you've listed as YOUR reasons and more; he's MY beautiful boy and I'm just his mother-in-law! Happy Birthday, sweet son.

My most memorable birthday was when I turned 60 and you and Jim put on that fabulous cook-out,
tons of food (Jim grilled for hours) and family, filled your home and deck and yard with my loved ones, sooo many children and grandchildren. Thank you, again, it's always going to be my very favorite birthday memory.

OH! Happy birthday. I love your hubby too. He is the pepperoni AND the cheese.

Hmmmm...the best birthday ever was the one I just had. I spent the day at the Renaissance Festival with my family and had a BLAST!

What a wonderful post about a wonderful man!

My most memorable birthday was probably my 40th. We rented a house in Dixon, NM with my sister and her fiance. Had a great time eating, drinking, laughing, hiking and swimming. And my sister presented me with a memory book of pictures and sweet memories from friends and family.

Hey! Today is Dr. Seuss's birthday, too!

I'd have to say 6 was my most memorable birthday. I got my first ever bike, and I had friends over and we made clown ice cream cones -- just like the ones at Baskin Robbins, but we got to decorate them. Mmmmm....frosting.

Man, Bubby is so lucky to come from such a studly 'Daddy-Pa' (as he called him the other day!)

Happy Birthday Dad! Can't wait to see you in a few weeks! And we should really start thinking about the next time I can scare the stuff out of Mom with a surprise visit! Love you!

Happy Birthday Papa!

Most memorable birthday for me would have to be the year we played limbo. I think I was turning ten. I just remember the rug burn I got on my chin from falling. :-) Most birthdays when we were little were memorable because we had such awesome cakes!!

Tell Jim happy birthday for me.

For my 29th birthday I went to Chicago to see the Red Sox play the Cubs.
This was right after the Red Sox broke their "curse," it was the first time they'd played the Cubs since 1918 and their first time ever at Wrigley Field. (Blah, blah, what I'm trying to say is the game was a really, really big deal for both Red Sox and Cubs fans and it's a small miracle I was able to get into the stadium.)

Every birthday since then has sort of been a bust.

He sounds fabulous!!! Please wish him a happy birthday from me also!

I don't remember any of my birthdays anymore. It's like a rule.

Our guys aren't as bad as we make them out to be!

I got Bon Jovi concert tickets for my birthday and my sister flew in and we went to the concert together.

I can officially say that my dad is the best ever! Not only for all that you posted but for a million other reasons, especially when he sits with me for hours just staring out the window as if something cool might happen. (May not be my birthday memory but I can guarantee it happens on someone's birthday)

Happy Birthday Papa! I am glad we got to surprise you and you had absolutely no clue! We are sneaky sneaky! Love you!
