9 things I will NOT do in 2011

While lots of folks are making lists of all the things they plan to do in the new year, I'm taking the other tack and offering up 9 things I will not do in 2011:

    1. I will not give up coffee. You can't make me, you can't make me, you can't make me.

    2. I will not join a gym. At least not until I'm in better shape.

    3. I will not become an alcoholic, a position covered quite well by plenty of people around me. As Mattie Ross said in the original True Grit, "I won't put a thief in my mouth to steal my brain." (That doesn't mean, of course, that I won't let a thief borrow my brain now and then; lending it out on occasion can be quite enjoyable when in the right company.)

    4. In the same vein, I will not be an enabler for those around me who allowed their brains to be stolen. And I will not be an enabler of the enablers who are enabling those with missing brains to death. Literally.

    5. I will not get too serious on this blog. Or too revealing. Or too personal. Most of the time.

    6. I will not snigger or snort at whatever name Megan and Preston choose for my second grandson. Unless it's BillyBobJoeDon. Or Ashton. Or SkippyJon Jones (thanks, Mrs. Mayhem).

    7. I will not get frustrated while trying to improve my photo-editing skills. And photo-taking skills. Okay ... I will not lie, either, so disregard what I just said about photos.

    8. I will not give up -- on my books, my blog, my bank account. Or my dreams of the lives my girls should be leading. Or my dream of winning PCH ... or the lotto.

    9. I will not make resolutions. At least not those that I'm darn-shooting sure from the get-go that I won't come within spitting distance of accomplishing.

Hey now, I have a grandson named Ashton. lol Don't worry, I don't take you seriously. I love this blog. You are so funny and really help jumpstart my morning a great way. Love ya, girl.

JANET: Ha! Too funny! "Ashton" is an inside joke between me and Megan. Seriously not dissing your grandson's name. :o)

I will not take myself too seriously in 2011. Laugh at myself more. :-)

Those are great things not to do. #2 cracked me up. (I personally HATE gyms.)

Hmmmm...this is a hard question today. I will not let myself get too busy to touch base with old friends - at least every once in awhile. :-)

Hahaha, love this post! I will not become a morning person. It's just not happening!

Your list pretty much sums it up. Great list. I might add that I will not let any more than 3 dogs get up on the bed.

This rocked! I will add mine:
I will not secretly eat a second breakfast after my healthy one when everyone is out of the house. OK, I won't do it more than 2 times a week. Or maybe 3.

I will not stop reading Grandma's Briefs. And I will not stop worrying. It's my thing after all.

Oh that was so much fun! I love your "not do's".

I will not forget that i am a woman who still has something to offer the working world.....every day, while I fill out the countless online job apps.

I will NOT become an enlightened, better version of myself; remember my motto: I don't want to, I don't have to, you can't make me, I'm retired!

I will NOT stop loving nor helping people that are suffering from alcoholiism, drug addicts, PSTD, or any other type of disorder or disease.I will not enable but neither will I ignore. I will not make light of others suffering. I will not allow the words of others to stop me from the progress I am making in my life! My progress may hit a bump and have to restart but what I do with that bump is MY OWN business! I will never forget WHO I AM and what I have accomplished no matter what others may say or think!

    December 30, 2010 | Registered CommenterLisa

In 2011, after having heard many times, "Oh no you didn't" I will reply at least once, "You're damn right I did." Yep that's my only resolution for 2011. Everything else is subject to change. Deb

I will not become a nag to my adult son who is moving in with us for awhile in January so he can try to get a better job.

Hilarious! I think I'll just go with your list. Particularly 2, 3, and 7! Happy New Year!

    December 30, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPam

I like the idea of listing what you won't do, rather than what you will do, for the new year as I think it's easier to keep these promises! I already know what my second grandson will be called, and it's another unique short name to go with our rather ethnic one full of vowels :)

Your list of NOTS is so great that it's hard to think of more...hmmm...

I will not put on a swimsuit unless I'm in safely in another state or on a deserted island.

I will not give up chocolate. (This is why I will NOT put on a swimsuit)

I will not quit driving my daughter and son-in-law crazy because I canNOT seem to keep my mouth shut over their choice of names for second Grandbaby to be. They are not thinking straight. lol.

I will not quit my personal crusade to start changing minds and stereotypes about Grandparents.

Whew....thanks! Now I will not worry about it anymore...

    Happy New Year!

I will not stop enjoying your blog!

Greetings and happy new year. This is my first visit, and I came via Pat at Millefiori Favoriti.

I must share how much I enjoyed this post. I love your unique look at resolutions - or non-resolutions. You have me a big smile.
