Can you hear me now?
Because I'm still visiting Bubby and haven't had time to actually write anything for a few days now ...
And because I recently received a link to this video (I love VSL) ...
And because this video relates to the cell phone hell Jim and I have dealt with since he got his new job in an AT&T dead zone that is nearly as bad as the AT&T dead zone we enter when visiting his family in South Dakota ...
Because of all of the above -- but mostly just because I think it's cool -- I'm posting this video instead of an actual personalized post.* It's about 5 minutes long but it's interesting and semi-amusing, especially if you've ever been frustrated by cell phone service that doesn't come though when you need it to most.
*A post requiring true use of my brain cells writing skills is soon forthcoming.
Today's question of the day:
How long ago did you get your first cell phone?
I hate talking on the phone so I didn't get a cell phone until five or six years ago, and then I kept it turned off except for when I needed to call someone; I didn't allow incoming calls. I still use it only occassionally ... and more often than not it's for texting. (No matter the medium, I prefer writing over talking.)

I got my first cell back in 1995! It was the very first flip phone and it was the size of a small car. Ok, not quite, but it was almost as big as a home phone -- and still smaller than everything else available at the time. I was commuting from Tiny-Town, Illinois to University-Town, Illinois through mostly open farmland, so it was an emergency phone, and it was a pay-per-minute deal. It didn't get used often, but I felt safer having it. Now I have two mobile phones and, like Lisa, prefer to communicate in writing.
About a year and a half ago. It took a lot to convince me.
The final straw was I drove up to Denver to meet a friend for lunch. There was a Rockies game and Pride Fest going on at the same time so I had to park well over a mile away from the restaurant and walk in the most ridiculous pair of shoes I own. I was 45 minutes late and my friend wasn't there so I just assumed he thought I stood him up. So then I had to walk, in the same ridiculous pair of shoes, to a pay phone and called him to be told, "Oh, I had to cancel. Didn't you get my message this morning?" Of course I didn't. I wasn't at home.
Then I walked, in the same ridiculous shoes, to a bar where a friend of mine works only to see he wasn't there. Had a drink and left. Apparently my friend came in right after I left, saw my debit card receipt, and called me to say, "Hey! You're in Denver? Wanna hang out?"
But of course he was calling my landline ... in Colorado Springs ... so I didn't get the message until late that night.
I bought a cell phone the next day and haven't worn those shoes since.
I got one when I went vagrant and moved states. In fact, I've only had a land line once and briefly since, and that's more than five years now.
I hope you and Bubby are having a grand time! I got my first phone about 7 years ago when my daughter was a sr. in high school. Hubby and I got one because we wanted her to have one! I still don't give out my number...it's just for family.
