The next Grilled Grandma
This week's Grilled Grandma is a grandma I've greatly admired for a couple years now -- but she doesn't know that.
Sherry is the mother-in-law of my friend and former co-worker, Heather, so I've heard many wonderful stories about her grandparenting skills. And I've heard lots about the fantastic gifts she gives her loved ones. In fact, it was Sherry who -- unbeknownst to her -- inspired me to give Bubby, Megan and Preston the cool gift I wrote about yesterday.
Not only does Sherry give great gifts, she gives great parties. I'm determined to find a nifty bubble machine like the one she had bubbling away at Kaylee's second birthday!
So, with this, the word is out: I think Sherry's grand! I think you will, too. You can read Sherry's grilling -- and share some comment love with her -- HERE.
Do you know a grandma you think is just grand? Send me her first name and e-mail address and I'll schedule her for a grilling.
Today's question from "If ... (Questions for the Game of Life)":
If you could completely eliminate one of your pet peeves, what would you get rid of?
I really have problems with people who don't do what they say they're going to do. Whether it's a big thing or a small thing, it really gets my panties in a bunch when people don't follow through. "But it's not like I promised I'd do it" is no excuse; any word that comes out of your mouth should be a promise. And it doesn't even have to be something that was going to be done for me; if they say they're going to do something for themselves, for reasons that have nothing to do with me, it still makes me crazy that they don't do it. If you're not going to do it, don't say it! (Shew, can you tell it bothers me!?) But since there's nothing I can do about it, and, as Dr. Phil says (I can't believe I'm quoting him!), "You can't change others, you can only change your reaction to them," I would like to just eliminate people who don't do what they say they're going to do. (Warning: You might not want to share your New Year's resolutions with me because you now know where that will likely lead.)

Passive-agressive behavior is my pet peeve. If you've got something to say, just say it, damn it. Don't beat around the bush, don't smile and say "bless her heart", don't talk behind someone's back and don't post some passive-aggressive little comment on Facebook so we all know you're upset...it just lets me know you don't have the guts to confront the situation and get it settled. Sorry...obviously, this is a BIG pet peeve for me! LOL.
Ooh, Kathy, that's a good one. Passive-aggressive behavior makes me want to just be aggressive. And maybe it's part of my pet peeve, too -- people (especially "professional" people) who don't return phone calls. It's not as if I'm making cold calls to people asking them for money. For the most part, I am calling these people to do something for them. This is in regard to my jobs. I don't mind if friends send me an e-mail or a text in response to a phone message. But when I'm calling you as a professional trying to do her job, please call me back.
After thinking and thinking and thinking about it, I've decided that, either from getting old or taking an antidepressant since my stroke nearly seven years ago, I don't have ANY pet peeves! Oh, yes; there are plenty of times people aggravate or tick me off but I just get very vocal and get it off my chest right then and there (as anyone who knows me knows). I think "pet peeves" occur when the person getting peeved is too polite to just go ape and say so (maybe).
Great post, as always.
I've missed your blog while I was away... looks like I have a bit of reading to catch up on!!
Hope the holidays we all that you imagined and more!
As far as pet peeves, I hate the sound of a barking dog. Makes my top lip break out in a sweat. I live on a street where people let their dogs bark constantly day and night. So, if I could find a way to tune that out, I would jump at the chance. Other than that, I don't let much bother me anymore!!!
Wishing you the warmest of wishes for the New Year!!!!
