Review: Shake It Up! 3-in-1 Handshake Game
Thursday, April 21, 2011 In the Grandma's Briefs 2010 Holiday Guide, I featured the Away We Go! Storybook and Music CD by GrandCamp Adventures. It was the first of a planned series of music, games, stories and more created especially for grandparents and grandkids. In the review I posted in the Holiday Guide, I wrote, "This set is just the beginning, as GrandCamp Adventures plans to roll out additional games and more to further the family fun."
Well, GrandCamp Adventures is off to a delightful roll with its next offering: the Shake-It-Up! 3-in-1 Handshake Game ($16.99). The game features 24 cards with photos (not drawings) of handshake moves and gestures. The handy pictures can be used, as promised, in three different ways:
1. Grandparents and their grandchildren can create personalized "secret" handshakes by combining several of the moves. (Parents and other kids can be included in the fun, too.)
2. The reverse side of the cards can be arranged as a puzzle featuring a scene from the Here We Go! storybook.
3. A memory game can be played with some or all of the cards, with players going around the circle and adding handshake moves as they go, creating a silly sequence of shakes to remember.
Secret handshakes form yet another bond between grandparents and their grandchildren. Coming up with a wild and wacky one is loads of fun with the Shake It Up! game.
What I loved about the game: The large cards with clear handshake moves and gestures are easy to figure out, no matter the age. Also, I was happy to see one of the moves that Bubby does included in the game. He calls it "Knucks POW!" but the official name, according to the game, for bumping knucks then backing one's hand away with a finger fling is called the "Exploder."
What I didn't love so much: Nothing to say here as what's there not to love about yet another sweet, simple and, most importantly, fun way for grandparents and grandchildren to spend time together?
