Review & giveaway: Shoe-la-la by Karen Beaumont
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
It's definitely boot season, considering the cold and snow covering most of the country. That is, of course, unless you're Emily, Ashley, Kaitlyn, and Claire, the protagonists of Karen Beaumont's picture book, Shoe-la-la, enchantingly illustrated by LeUyen Pham.
In Shoe-la-la, the fancy foursome searches for the perfect shoes to match their party dresses. They exhaust every single option -- as well as the befuddled "Shoe-la-la" salesman -- before settling on unique and creative selections befitting the unique and creative style of each of the primping partygoers.
Shoe-la-la is a fun and fancy-filled tale shoe-loving gals of all ages will appreciate. Take a look:
GIVEAWAY: Scholastic Press, publisher, provided not only the free copy of Shoe-la-la for me to review, but two free copies for me to give away to readers of Grandma's Briefs. All you have to do to enter the drawing is answer the following question:
When it comes to shoe shopping, do you select shoe because of how comfortable they are or do you select them because of how fashionable they are?
Entries accepted until midnight MST January 13 and the two winners will be announced Friday, January 14.

Comfort, for sure. I don't have a drop of fashion sense in my body.
My mother loved shoes and now my granddauaghter loves shoes. I must get this book to read with her!
I have one granddaughter out of eight grandchildren. Never having any girls myself she has completed me. We love to play dress up, have tea parties, read and shop together. It is so wonderful out of a house full males to have female share my things with, like teach crocheting, cooking (although I do that with the boys too) but she says it is girls time and no boys allowed. She is such sunshine in my life. :)
I look for style, but they've also got to be comfortable.
I love shoes! I used to go for fashion but now that I am older, I go for comfort. My 9 year old granddaughter has now caught the shoe bug and this book would be so much fun for us to read together.
If it's not comfortable, it isn't in my closet. Sounds like a cute book to share with my grandchildren, one with the same name as one of the protagonists (really!)
Comfort, comfort, comfort. With a big capital C.
C for comfort, and that is my final answer!
When I was young...it was all about style, fashion...and of course matching shoes and purse!! Now that I'm a proud grandma, I have to be more practical...but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy shopping around to get THE cutest shoes I can find and not settle on just the comfort. You can still get cute shoes that are comfortable...just not the 3" high!! Happy Shopping!
